Henna is a flowering plant whose leaves have been used to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather, silk and wool.

Mehndi is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration, originating in Asia, North Africa and India, as well as by expatriate communities from these areas. Mehndi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are sometimes called henna tattoos. Henna is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and festivals. It is usually drawn on the palms and feet, where the color will be darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin which binds temporarily to lawsone, the colorant of henna. Henna was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.

Henna, when applied is a dark greenish brown paste and although it stains the skin in as little as 15 minutes, should be left on for 2 to 24 hours for the darkest stain.  When the henna dries and is removed, the stain left behind is a rich amber color and last for a week to three weeks.

Studio 7 offers Henna tattooing by appointment only.
